Why is Blockchain technology relevant to supply chain transparency?

To create real information integrity, it is key to know who uploaded what information at what time and place. Once this information is stored in the blockchain, it cannot be altered.

What happens if wrong information is uploaded to the blockchain?

Wrongly inputted information cannot be changed nor deleted. However, additional information can be uploaded to supplement the faulty information.

What checks and balances are in place to validate the information uploaded to the tex.tracer platform?

Following checks are performed when a user is creating an account (Know Your Supplier data);
– 2-factor authentication of the user (through both email and
SMS-code)
– Geo location verification of the facility
– Sustainable & Social Certificate validity and authenticity are verified

Following checks are performed during order processing;
– Digital handshake takes place by asking the next step in the supply chain to verify submitted evidence (e.g. delivery notes) of the
previous step
– Transaction certificates (e.g. for GOTS, GRS, BCI) that are uploaded are verified

What is the extra value of real-time verified information on order level over static supply chain partner data?

Data verification in real-time dramatically increases the level of data reliability when compared to static data and it also gives insight in the actual production status. Furthermore, real-time verified data strongly reduces the risk of possible fraudulent actions, such as production in non-certified sub-factories, a common practice in the industry.

Does tex.tracer guarantee validity of all uploaded information to the platform?

tex.tracer cannot guarantee validity of all uploaded information. tex.tracer uses information provided by e.g. individual users and certifying bodies throughout the supply chain. The ‘commitment to data’ principle is the guiding principle: if uploaded information turns out to be invalid, the user in question can be traced and held responsible, which is why a user commits to providing correct data.

How does tex.tracer check validity and authenticity of licenses and certifications?

Currently the authenticity and validity are checked manually. We are in talks with Control Union to setup an interface connection so this can be automated in the future. Upon successful completion, the same will be done with other certification bodies.

Can tex.tracer help to trace back cotton to its origin?

Two options are available to trace cotton back to its origin:
Firstly, cotton can be traced back to origin in retrospect (not real-time) based on GOTS or BCI certificates.
Secondly, in Phase 2, if the yearly harvest details are uploaded real-time in tex.tracer, the lotnumber of the ginned lint cotton can be used for further identification and matching with your future orders. tex.tracer is working with cotton cooperations to upload harvesting and ginning details into the system real-time, making this option a reality.

How does tex.tracer reduce workload in a compliance department?

Moving from endless Emails and Excel sheets to a system with real-time and validated data as well as automated notifications regarding the expiry of e.g. certificates massively reduces the workload. Setting up your brand and its supply chain partners in tex.tracer does require time, but is intuitive. Once your supply chain is set up, the burden is minimal.

Are orders followed per colourway or per style?

Orders can be followed per colourway or style. If followed per colourway, each colourway will need its own unique QR code.

Can I rate my suppliers using tex.tracer?

Why would a (e.g.Tier 1) supply chain partner cooperate and help to provide requested information?

Supply chain partners are bombarded with questions regarding sustainability and transparency from their customers. In some cases these questions return on a monthly basis from the same customers, massively increasing the workload. The tex.tracer uploading tools are designed to minimise workload, as company data only needs to be submitted once for possibly multiple customers when tex.tracer is used.

Furthermore, Tier 1 supply chain partners can easily share their “Know Your Supplier’ data with other customers, even when these customers are not yet active on the tex.tracer platform.

How can supply chain partners in areas with limited internet connection upload information?

Supply chain partners use a mobile web app that also works when internet is not available. Data can be collected using this web app, and can be uploaded once the user reaches an area where internet is available.

What is the business model?

To avoid further financial pressure on the supply chain partners, the tex.tracer platform is free-of-use for supply chain partners (terms apply). tex.tracer charges a fee for each article that is mapped using the tex.tracer platform. This fee is charged to the brand or importing agency (when the brand in question is not a tex.tracer client).

Is it possible to show only the location of the supply chain partners, but not their exact name and/or address information?

The amount of information shared in the consumer interface can be customised in the compliance dashboard.

When will the supply chain information be visible to consumers?

A preview button is available in the compliance dashboard. Once all information is reviewed and accepted, the information can be published by clicking the ‘publish now’ button.
